A to Z Challenge - E

Top 10 "E" Movies

We made it through the first week!! This was harder than I thought. It was really difficult trying to pick a top ten that included all genres. The only logical way for me to find a solution was to split it up in Adult Sections and Kids Sections. I hope you have enjoyed the first week in the challenge. I'm going to enjoy the day off and nurse this migraine before we kick off next week with F-K.

Adult Section

Would you erase your memories if you had the opportunity? That's what this movie poses and one mans trip through the process. I love how this movie is written and directed. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet want to erase their past, but only discover what they truly had.

Elizabeth (1998)

This was the first film I watched in regards to the early years of Queen Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett). It demonstrates the sacrifices she had to make and the struggles of becoming one of England's most memorable Monarch's. This Golden Globe Winner has an excellent array of stars that make this a favorite for many.

Eat Pray Love (2010)

This adaption to screen story tells of a woman's path to self-discovery. Julia Roberts portrays Liz Gilbert who has been involved in some disastrous relationships resulting in a numbing, mind boggling loss of self. She makes the crucial leap and jump starts her soul back in a journey crossing the span of the world. My favorite part of the movie is Javier Bardem.

Erin is a struggling single mother who at first is just looking for a job to stay afloat. She uses her drive and fight to help a community fight against a big corporation, which in today's society is a near impossible feat. Julia Roberts brings a fierce rendition to Brockovich and is a character you'll cherish.

As a child of the 90's I cherish many of the genre's during this decade. Tim Burton directs this fun and quirky tale of Edward (Johnny Depp) who was created and kept hidden from a community. Once discovered the gentle soul, with scissors for hands, is unleashed on a cookie-cutter society - it doesn't help that he falls in love with the town beauty (Winona Ryder) either.

This is a classic Steven Spielberg movie; it has action, comedy, and drama. It's about a boy that makes an out of this world discovery. It also shows the destructive policies within our society and the dangers they pose on anything different. I love this movie because I watched it as a kid and it's always stayed with me. Not to mention it has Drew Barrymore when she was a little girl; adorable.

Danielle (Drew Barrymore) was once the daughter of a nobleman, now made slave by her step-mother (Angelica Huston) after her father's death. She works hard for her love of home and those she considers family. Until the day when an chance encounter turns her world upside down in this love-conquers-all adaption of the classic tale.

Evan Almighty (2007)

Sequel to Bruce Almighty (2003), Congressman Evan (Steve Carell) is contacted by God (Morgan Freeman) to build an Arc. This is a lough-out-loud romp that puts into perspective how religion and politics collide. I love this movie and could watch it over and over again.

Elf (2003)

Comedic genius Will Ferrell brings Buddy the Elf to life in this Christmas comedy. Buddy (Ferrell) is the black sheep of his elf friends. He learns that he was actually adopted, with this knowledge he sets out and discovers his roots and bringing his love of the holiday season to those that he meets. If you haven't seen this, don't wait until the holiday's come around again - watch it!

Encino Man (1992)

When I was younger I must have watched this movie at least 100 times (an don VHS, showing my age). This stars Sean Astin as the 'awkward-wanting to be popular' student that loves the out-of-reach hot high school girl. When him and his friend (Pauly Shore) discover a prehistoric being (Brendan Frazer) the ordinary changes to extraordinary. Plus, I had a huge crush on Brendan Frazer growing up.
